SHORT ANSWER · 2-MINUTE READ

Why do data quality, expert assessment and reporting matter in AI-assisted solar PV thermal analysis? Understand the limitations of automated detection.

From thermal images to maintenance decisions

Organising images collected from numerous panels at a solar power plant is a substantial workload. AI-assisted image analysis can be used to flag temperature patterns for investigation and group similar findings. However, an automated label is not a definitive fault diagnosis.

What determines the quality of the result?

Irradiance, wind, viewing angle, reflections and camera resolution affect the image. Processing unsuitable data with software does not remove these limitations. Having the system operating during inspection and recording measurement conditions improve the traceability of the interpretation.

Why is expert review necessary?

Shading or reflections can create thermal patterns resembling faults. Flagged areas should be examined alongside visible-light images and site information. Electrical verification is recommended where necessary. It is inappropriate to promise zero errors or a fixed accuracy rate before the algorithm's results have been verified under field conditions.

Questions to ask when assessing a report

  • Under what conditions were the images collected?
  • Were finding locations matched to panels or the site plan?
  • Were the observed anomaly and possible cause identified separately?
  • Which findings require additional checks?

Our solar PV thermal analysis service explains the survey, assessment and reporting steps. Maintenance reporting describes the findings follow-up process.
